Within the framework of the GBIF project "Strengthening the capacities of civil society organisations to create and contribute to a unique database on marine turtles in Cameroon", RASTOMA collaborated with the Cameroonian Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development to pursue its efforts to capitalise on scientific information on marine turtles in Central Africa and in Cameroon in particular. The objective of this project was to establish a reliable and functional database on marine turtles in Cameroon. Four CSOs in Cameroon formed the Cameroon Marine Turtle Platform and acquired the skills to digitise and publish marine turtle occurrence and sampling data for the global biodiversity database GBIF and the African marine biodiversity database AFROBIS. The results are available on the Cameroon Biodiversity Information System, will feed into national coastal and marine biodiversity management strategies and influence policies for coastal development and the creation of marine protected areas.

The aim of the workshop was to monitor, evaluate the level of achievement of the project BID-AF2020-138-INS and then learn the lesson from this project.
